We are often asked “what does die struck mean” and “why is it important.” In short it is an exceptional process of jewelry making that creates jewelry of heirloom quality. While it is no longer widely used in the industry, jewelers agree that die struck jewelry produces a product of superior strength and durability.

What Is Die Striking?Die striking is a process of jewelry manufacturing that uses an immense amount of pressure to form precious metal into a desired shape. What is the difference between Die Struck and Cast?Cast jewelry uses a low pressure mold method of making jewelry. It is more popular in today's market because it allows jewelry to be sold at a reduced price. This is due to its easy manufacturing methods and lower metal weight. However, compared to die struck jewelry it produces a product that is less durable. How is jewelry die struck? Two custom crafted pieces of steel, as pictured above, the hub (male) and the master die (female) are struck together with the gold or platinum between them to gently form the desired shape using as much as 50 tons of pressure. This immense amount of pressure makes the jewelry highly dense and therefore very durable. For a more detailed explanation of the process please watch our documentary.

What are the advantages of Die Striking?
Heirloom Quality Jewelry
Fine jewelry is a lifetime investment and one that everyone envisions lasting for generations to come. At Jabel we know first hand through the countless stories we receive each week from woman who have inherited their grandmother, great-grandmother or great-great-grandmother's die struck jewelry how important it is to offer this quality. The density of the metal allows it to stand up to everyday wear and tear.
Hand Engraved Jewelry
Hand engraving is a true art form and requires the most durable material to guarantee that it will not be worn away. Therefore, the durable density of die struck gold and platinum is an ideal 'canvas' for their work of art (see the hand engraved wedding band below).
Safety
Why invest in a diamond engagement ring unless you can offer maximum protection for your stone. Die Struck heads offer superior strength to protect your diamond!
