2014 has been a stellar year for weddings. This is no more so evident than in the fact that many of these themes are primed to continue gracing weddings throughout 2015. Here is a run down of some of my favorite wedding themes, designers, etc. THANK YOU 2014 brides for making my job so wonderful!
#1 Top 2014 Wedding Cake Trends
Wedding cakes were f.a.n.t.a.s.t.i.c.
Wedding cakes hit an all time creative high with the hand painted cakes, chalkboard cakes, artisan-style naked cakes, and sprinkle cakes...Need I say more? Sprinkles!
Chalkboard Wedding Cakes
Chalkboard wedding cakes tie in perfect with rustic weddings! We love this cake from the talented Artisan Cake Company with its romantic vintage appeal!
Naked Wedding Cakes
Naked cakes are great for rustic weddings, unique weddings, and especially weddings with a farm-to-table approach. For a great naked wedding cake, nothing is more perfect than this one from Alliance Baker and Cafe in Chicago!
Grown-Up Sprinkle Cakes
What a fun wedding cake! This modern use of 'sprinkles' takes a childhood favorite and elevates it to something elegant, refined, and modern. Thank you Sweet Art Bakery for this fantastic cake! (Cake featured on WeddingChicks.com)
Artistic Hand Painted Cakes
Maggie Austin Cakes proved that today's bakers are artists! The beautiful Tiffany inspired hand painted stained glass design is a spectacular example of 2014's hand painted cake trend.

#2 Top 2014 Wedding Dress Trends
Wedding dresses were romantic!
2014 was a wonderful year for brides looking to bring something new to their wedding fashion. The bridal world saw a beautiful collections of color, lace, sleeves, and necklines.
Form Following Wedding Dresses
Form following gowns were in! From grand trumpet gowns to classic sheaths, the female form was celebrated in 2014! This beautiful lace gown from Adrianna Papell with its deep v-neck and vintage style lace was spot on for 2014 brides.
Wedding Dresses With Color
Color was a must-have for 2014 brides, giving designers, like Claire Pettiobone, carte blanche to let their artistry shine! In addition to her 'Willow' dress featured here, another spectacular Pettibone colored gown was the 'Raven' dress. Pettibone's out of the box drapery, fabrication, and color make her one of the most sought after designers today!
Wedding Dresses with Sleeves
Echoing the beauty of years gone by are the inspiring sleeved wedding gowns that we saw on the runways, in store windows, and walking down wedding aisles across the country this year! They define the word classic by being timeless, beautiful, and flawless. It is no wonder why Jesus Peiroa meticulous designer who glorifies the female form with every design, gave us beautiful gowns like this one. His construction and fabrication are remarkable!
Illusion Necklines
A new twist in the 2014 bridal market was the revival of illusion necklines, adorning necks with sheer fabrics that range from unadorned (but not austere) to lavishly embellished with embroider and/or beading. This gown from Karen Willis Holmes is the perfect illusion neck. True to her style, Holmes' sensitivity when embellishing gowns means they are elegant and feminine without being overly adorned. Simply put, her illusion gowns were fabulous!
Bo-Ho Chic Wedding Dresses
Bohemian chic, or boho chic, weddings were all the rage in 2014. The weddings were a romantic blend of nature, rusticism, and vintage charm. Designer, Yolan Cris, embraced the movement and produced countless draw-dropping gowns that had me wishing I was getting married all over again!

#3 Top 2014 Tech Weddings Trends (...or Tech-Free Weddings Trends)
The Millennial generation is getting married!
With the Millennial generation beginning to marry, 2014 saw new tech trends that were eco-friendly. The need to address technology at weddings showed a fundamental change in the way guests attend weddings.
Charging Station at Weddings (A.K.A. Power Bars)
A new gathering spot for wedding goers was the Power Bar, designated with fun signs like this one from PSPrintables. 2014 guests mingled over cocktail as they powered up their phones. Why? The next generation of wedding guests do not carry cameras, their phones are their cameras, video cameras, etc. Likewise, these Millennial wedding goers wanted to stay connected to the virtual world.
Wedding Hashtag
What better way to keep all your guest's pictures and stories in one place than grouping them all with one hashtag. This is a great way to share images and stories for friends and family to look back on after your wedding day is over. To keep all the wedding guests using the same # brides and grooms used signs like this one from BeauTiedAffairs.
Wedding Websites
Go green and keep everyone in the loop with wedding website services, like MyWedding.com. Long gone are the days of thick wedding invitations. Millennial weddings are eco-friendly with online RSVP, hotel recommendations, itineraries of events, and even directions.
Unplugged Weddings
While many 2014 brides and grooms embraced the tech wedding trend, a steadfast group went in the opposite direction by requesting an unplugged wedding. At these events they ask friends and family members to refrain from using their phones during the ceremony and reception; no pictures, no tweets, no posts, no hashtags, not texting, etc. Signs, like this one from RecipeBox, served as a friendly reminder for guests to remain present in the real world, not the virtual world.

#4 Top 2014 Wedding Bouquet Trends
Romance was in bloom!
Finding unique alternatives and reviving past trends brought romance to the forefront of wedding flowers.
Succulent Wedding Bouquets
The soft muted colors of succulents paired beautifully with 2014 wedding colors. Likewise the bold textural contrasts made succulent bouquets popular in 2014. Leading the trend was Marialuisa Kaprielian, of Succulently Urban, a talented floral designer who has been working with succulents for over 15 years. Cascade Wedding Bouquets
Hand tied bouquets gave way to a growing number of brides wanting a natural cascade of flowers in their wedding bouquets. Cascade bouquets ranged from grand and flowing to more subtle ones, like this exquisite bouquet from Studio Blush.

#5 Top 2014 Wedding Rings Trends
Rings were romantic.
Vintge, rustic, and electic themes made for some beautiful wedding ring selections in 2014; playing with color, texture, and style.
The epitome of the mixed metal jewelry are stackable rings. These rings found their way into the wedding world with brides selecting their first of many rings to come as their wedding band. Additional rings in contrasting metal color will follow with the arrival of anniversaries and milestone occasions as the couple begins their new new life together!
With the rise of vintage weddings we saw a surge in pink gold wedding bands. Pink gold is a vintage favorite and pairs beautifully with most any antique style engagement ring.
Floral engagement ring and wedding rings were a hit in 2014. Regardless of if they do or do not have diamonds, these wedding rings were elegant, feminine, and a perfect fit for 2014 brides.
Vintage style wedding bands will always be in fashion, however, in 2014 they were finally given the respect they deserve. Our favorite design was, and is, this hand engraved ring form Jabel.

Weddings had one common theme, romance!
We fell in love with historic Cedarwood in 2014. Yes, Nashville brides were fortunate enough to have this amazing venue in their backyard. Everything about Cedarwood was perfect for 2014 wedding trends. All of the themes below were photographed at the estate.
Vintage Wedding Themes
Pure romance! Vintage weddings in 2014 were filled with wonderful one-of-a-kind touches like those featured above; depression glass, bud vases, wild flowers paired with formal roses, lace, etc! A special thank you to Rachel Moore Photography for capturing this moment so beautifully!
Rustic Wedding Themes
Rustic wedding juxtaposed authenticity with extraordinary! We loved seeing the spectacular use of barns, especially the historic Cedarwood barn. Likewise, we loved seeing all the brilliant photo opportunities these weddings gave talented photographers, like Love Is A Big Deal photography, the photographer who took the picture above.
Bohemian Wedding Themes (AKA Bo-Ho Chic Weddings)
Once again, boho chic weddings were awesome! Romantic, intimate, and full of inspiring photo opportunities. Add a great photographer to a boho wedding and you get moving 2014 wedding portraits like this one from Ariel Renae Photography. On a side note, how gorgeous is this clover field at historic Cedarwood!
